Call, JOHD

Special Collection of the Journal of Open Humanities Data (JOHD) that focuses on Wikidata as both a tool and an object of academic research: Wikidata across the humanities: datasets, methodologies, reuse, d:Q136325279#P1433, https://openhumanitiesdata.metajnl.com/collections/wikidata_across_the_humanities

Abstract by Jens Bemme and Martin Munke

Wikidata is including data from municipal archives, state archives and other sectors: metadata from archival records, archive creators, on provenance and the archives themselves.

The metadata of German archives in Wikidata has improved massively since winter 2024/25. Users added archive Qids (the unique identifier for Wikidata items), linked new identifiers, geo data and other information. We are asking in a call of the web portal SAXORUM for blog posts, reports, ideas and queries for 'Wikidata, Geo Data and Archives' since January, https://saxorum.hypotheses.org/12360.

We will discuss 'nearby' perspectives in regional use cases in Saxony, regarding archival institutions nearby in Poland, Czech Republic and nearby Bundesländer. Nearby, meaning geographically adjacent institutions, regions and its open metadata. We demonstrate that indexing of archives in Wikidata can foster cooperation and networking among memory institutions.
