Wikiversity:Fellow-Programm Freies Wissen/Einreichungen/Science to Public: insights into a refugee simulation model
Science to Public: insights into a refugee simulation model[Bearbeiten]Projektbeschreibung[Bearbeiten]The number of refugees worldwide is on the rise. Africa is a geographical hotspot for refugee camps. The sudden influx and the development of settlements affect host populations in various ways. Scientists indicate a great need for research on the impacts of refugees on their host population, especially by using innovative methodological approaches. The research of this project focuses on a case study refugee camp in rural Zambia and analyzes refugee-host society interrelations. A computer based simulation model, namely agent-based model, will be developed and applied. The innovative research approach explores complex systems by modeling agent-environment interactions and adaptive decision-making. It also enables long-term assessments through predictive simulations and policy scenario analysis. The projects underlying motivation is to openly communicate and present a scientific topic with social relevance. The refugee issue is particularly suitable for this purpose. Overall, the project aims for a democratic and transparent approach to knowledge transfer and contribution to science communication. In detail, it addresses the following objectives: 1. Communication of the entire research process and project via social media. 2. A project documentation video with detailed content on the project process. 3. A scientific publication on the refugee-host society research. The core goal of the research is to develop a simulation model which represents a refugee-host society in Zambia. 4. Networking with the interested scientific and social audience. Social media has a central role in the project to open science. Research work will gradually communicated to the public. Furthermore, the project video documents special events in the course of the project and consists of interview recordings, model animations and project explanations. The scientific output is published in an open access journal, and networking with interested actors takes place via workshops and discussion groups. The project is presented in a barrier-free way and independent of the educational level. It seeks for free access to knowledge and education in a comprehensible way. Transparency throughout the course of the project and in particular of the scientific presentations and results is essential. Autor/in[Bearbeiten]
